Fifty Local 1036 activists canvassed in Mercer, Burlington and Middlesex counties this weekend to contact and educate voters about their choices on Election Day. It is critical that labor, especially the public sector, full participate in supporting political candidates who will support working families, job creation, and collective bargaining rights. Join us from 9am to 12pm every Saturday morning - it's fun, you partner with other 1036 members, and work to make sure our elected officials reflect our values.

Legislative Meetings to Defend Collective Bargaining Rights

What is the 1036 LPAT?

LPATs are Legislative Political Action Teams of members designed to strengthen CWA's legislative and political action grassroots capacity year-round.
The Local 1036 LPAT focuses on quick-response action to legislation, contacting elected officials and media on a regular basis to promote our message, lobby days at the State House and in legislative districts, and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts around election day to support labor-friendly candidates.
On a National level, CWA LPATs were heavily involved in the health care debate in Washington by making legislative visits to Congress and organizing thousands of phone calls, emails, and letters to elected leaders.
Local 1036 LPAT members are the first to be called for our legislative lobbying efforts in Trenton and elsewhere.

Click HERE to find your State legislator. Next to voting on Election Day, the most important and powerful political action that union members can take is to directly contact your legislators. We need to be present, visible, and stay on their radar to influence decisions on our pensions, our health care, our contracts, and budgets. Every Union Member should contact their elected representatives! Every Local 1036 member in state, county and local government can contact their legislators for support during bargaining and during difficult budget situations. Right now, there is legislation pending that would alter pension and health benefits for ALL public workers at ALL levels of government. Take action NOW to call your Senate and Assembly representatives to express our opposition to these bills. It is critical that Union members express our political positions directly to our legislators. Take further action!

CWA-COPE is the political action committee for CWA members, their families and retirees. The COPE program educates, trains and mobilizes union families to encourage participation in the political process. Through COPE, CWA members express their voice in politics and on policy issues that affect their lives. COPE is funded through voluntary payroll deductions from union members. CWA can only use voluntary dollars to contribute to worker-friendly candidates. COPE funds also support worker education about candidates and their positions on issues that affect working families like healthcare, pensions, union organizing, and working conditions.
